Question by Sara G: Can anyone suggest a sensible fitness plan after knee reconstruction?
I had my ACL reconstructed in August last year. I’ve been really lazy with my exercises given but have been discharged from hospital with an instruction that it’s fine to resume full contact sports training. What i want is some exercises that can help build my hamstring and thigh muscles up. Am aiming to do a charity run in June so want things to build up to then.

Jog in the shallow end of the pool if possible.
That will not be taxing on your knee.

What is the best fitness plan for a very bad knee?

Question by heliumcamel: What is the best fitness plan for a very bad knee?
I am overweight, losing, with no fitness plan at present. I hate walking, and my knee swells from arthritis when I walk for any extended period of time. So for every 30 minutes I walk (even in a mall shopping) I spend an hour with my knee elevated and iced. I would appreciate any suggestions. I am in my early 50’s.

Swimming is very low impact, good for bad knees and gives resistance. Also, look into seeing if your gym has an underwater aerobics class you can attend.

Biking is also equally good.
